1996 - Winchester, England

This is just a report of a UFO sighting seen by a friend of mine last
night,i.e. the 12th March 1996. He was returning home from his father's
house at approximately 11.25 PM. At the top of his road is an ambulance
station with a small slip road down the side where he parks his car,
about 50 yards from his house. As he pulled up he saw directly in front
of him an object which he says resembled a brick layers trowel. i.e wedge
shaped, and black as far as he could tell. There was a light on top which
he said was flashing and a green light below which was static shining
straight down. At first he had thought it to be a lorry in the distance
as he lives near a dual carriageway. When he realised there was no road in
the place the object was travelling he took more notice. He says it was
moving along the horizon at between 70-80 mph the best he could tell. It
was about 200 yards away from him as it passed closest to him and heading
southwest in the direction of winchester. The object was about 100 feet
off the ground and he claims "completely silent"..I asked him if there
were any power outages or whatever in the area but he says no. I asked
him if there were any airfields in the area and he said it's 7 miles to
RAF Odiham and 7 miles to Oakhanger which he describes as having big
round domes on the base which he thinks are tracking radar. He himself is
convinced it was not earth military traffic or anything. He was very
excited talking about it. This all happened in/over the town of Alton in
Hampshire about 12 miles S SE of the M3 Junction 6. I hope you find this

free to ask me. He says he was sober and what I know of him I believe
him. His name is Robert Lane and he has lived in Alton for some time. Any
way that,s about it. If I made any spelling mistakes I apologise. I'm
typing this online and rushing it through. He is only the second person I
have ever met that's personally seen one of these things that I believed
implicitly. You were the first person I came to that had a mail return
